On September 30, 2026, Carnegie Mellon University announced an unprecedented $3bn gift from billionaire investor Ken Griffin, founder and CEO of Citadel. The funds will build a new Miami campus slated to begin construction in 2027 for more than 3,500 undergraduate, master's and PhD students, and invest in Pittsburgh including $1bn for the computer science school, which will be renamed, plus financial aid and faculty recruitment.
