AI-powered X-ray tools funded in the NHS enabled faster lung diagnosis for more than 4 million patients.

On 8 September 2026, The Guardian reported comments by Arm Holdings chief executive Rene Haas to the BBC that AI will help find a cure for cancer within our lifetimes. Haas argued that modelling how a DNA marker is impacted by cancer is currently too complex for humans and existing computers, but that feeding more models into more sophisticated computers will eventually solve it.

Generative music tool Treblo enabled an artist to produce a synth-pop track that reached No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 and over 35 million Spotify streams, demonstrating AI as a new sound-finding method for charting artists.

In June 2026, rapper Fenix Flexin released Rubberz, an 80s-inspired synth-pop single that climbed to No 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 with more than 35m Spotify streams. After skeptics noted its uncanny quality, producer Medasin demonstrated Treblo could recreate a near-identical track, and Fenix later admitted using AI, while Trebloe28099s own classifier flagged it as very likely Treblo-generated.

Nine Entertainment secured paid licensing deals allowing domestic corporates to use its content to train in-house large language models.

On 24 February 2026, Nine Entertainment CEO Matt Stanton used the company's half-year results to urge Prime Minister Albanese to prioritize the news bargaining incentive, a policy that would impose a charge on qualifying tech firms including Meta, Google and ByteDance unless they strike payment deals with local publishers. The push comes as many deals under the original voluntary code have expired and as AI-driven zero-click searches grow.

Researchers used genome language models Evo1 and Evo2 trained on 2 million bacteriophage genomes to design functional bacteriophage genomes, and a cocktail of the resulting viruses killed E. coli strains resistant to natural phages in lab dishes.

On 2026-08-06, researchers led by Stanford reported the first viruses whose genomes were designed by AI. Using models called Evo1 and Evo2 trained on 2 million bacteriophage sequences, they generated thousands of designs, built nearly 300 in the lab, and obtained 16 viable bacteriophages that as a cocktail killed E. coli resistant to natural phages in dish experiments.
