Curriculum-Aligned Conversational AI to Support Pathology Self-Directed Learning in Preclinical Medical Students: A Crossover Randomized Pilot Study
Background Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the landscape of medical education, yet the widespread adoption of general-purpose AI tools in student learning raises substantial concerns about curricular alignment, information accuracy, and the absence of pedagogical scaffolding. Objective This crossover pilot study evaluated a curriculum-aligned custom GPT that was developed to support AI-scaffolded self-directed learning (SDL), preparation that remains student-initiated but is supported by structured Soc…
Second-year medical students who prepared with a curriculum-aligned custom GPT scored higher on faculty-assessed self-directed learning documentation than with conventional resources.
This was a small single-course pilot that was not registered in a public trial registry, and delayed knowledge retention showed no significant difference in the primary analysis.

How to verify without trusting this page
Fetch the canonical text of any version from /api/record/TRV-2026-2014 and hash it yourself — for example shasum -a 256 on the saved canonical field. The result must equal content_hash, and each version’s text ends with prev:followed by the prior version’s hash (version 1 chains to 64 zeros). If a single character of any version had been altered since certification, the chain would not reproduce.
