The double-edged sword of human-AI collaboration on design students' competence development: The mediating roles of challenge and hindrance appraisals and the asymmetric moderation of teacher AI leadership
The deepening integration of generative AI into design education is driving a paradigm shift in human-computer AI collaboration (HAIC) -from mere tool assistance toward intelligent synergy. However, its dual impact on the competency development of design students and the underlying mechanisms remain insufficiently understood. Grounded in the Theory of Stress Appraisal, this study constructs a research model to examine the double-edged sword effect of HAIC on Design Competence (DC), introducing teacher AI Leaders…
The same AI collaboration can also harm design competence when students appraise it as a hindrance, so the effect is not simply positive.
The evidence comes from a questionnaire survey of 483 design students in East China, which limits how far the findings can be generalized beyond that population and survey method.

How to verify without trusting this page
Fetch the canonical text of any version from /api/record/TRV-2026-1942 and hash it yourself — for example shasum -a 256 on the saved canonical field. The result must equal content_hash, and each version’s text ends with prev:followed by the prior version’s hash (version 1 chains to 64 zeros). If a single character of any version had been altered since certification, the chain would not reproduce.
