AI less regulated than milk, Microsoft president says in warning over safety
Artificial intelligence is less regulated than milk and washing machines, the president of Microsoft has said, as the tech industry warns over the safety of AI. Brad Smith said there should be more safety rules to govern the technology including a legal obligation to a “victim” if their system was breached by rogue AI agents. He told the BBC: “Right now, your washing machine is subject to more safety rules than AI. Every carton of milk that you see in the grocery store is subject to safety rules and inspection.”…
Microsoft's president argues that AI is subject to fewer safety rules than household goods, leaving gaps in liability, containment and model security as rogue behaviour cases emerge.

How to verify without trusting this page
Fetch the canonical text of any version from /api/record/TRV-2026-1390 and hash it yourself — for example shasum -a 256 on the saved canonical field. The result must equal content_hash, and each version’s text ends with prev:followed by the prior version’s hash (version 1 chains to 64 zeros). If a single character of any version had been altered since certification, the chain would not reproduce.
