Artificial intelligence in the music streaming value chain: Exploring artists' and users’ perceptions on content creation and algorithmic consumption
Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role throughout every stage of the music industry value chain. In fact, AI has been integral to the value proposition of music streaming platforms since their inception. This research article investigates how AI—and in particular, Generative AI (GenAI)—affects the creation and consumption stages, the two most socially significant components of the music streaming value chain. It explores users’ perceptions of the impact of AI/GenAI on their music-listening experience…
Generative AI can lower barriers to entry for music creation, expanding who can participate in making music.
Generative AI may amplify existing dysfunctions of streaming platforms, threaten livelihoods of music professionals, and raise governance and transparency concerns.
Findings are based on qualitative perceptions from two focus groups, limiting generalizability beyond the sampled users and artists/performers.

How to verify without trusting this page
Fetch the canonical text of any version from /api/record/TRV-2026-0410 and hash it yourself — for example shasum -a 256 on the saved canonical field. The result must equal content_hash, and each version’s text ends with prev:followed by the prior version’s hash (version 1 chains to 64 zeros). If a single character of any version had been altered since certification, the chain would not reproduce.
